Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to operate and monitor a communications system. A communications system includes the various processes, both formal and informal, by which information is passed between personnel within a power generation facility itself and its clients, customers and stakeholders.Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, operate and monitor a communications system and completion of all documentation. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision, in a power generation facility as an operator.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply from this unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

  • An appropriate medium for communication is determined from the available options and is used, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Communication procedures for opening, passing and receiving messages are implemented, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Communication equipment is used, in accordance with workplace procedures, Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines and manufacturers' specifications
       
Element: Limitations of communication system are identified and alternatives are used, in accordance with workplace procedures

  • Data acquisition is monitored and assessed for quality and action is taken, in accordance with workplace procedures

Assessment Tasks
